DIY Paper Pals Pillow Project

From the Paper-Cut Harvest Collection
You don’t need a glue stick or a pile of construction paper to bring this crafty harvest to life! Our Paper Pals Pillow Project turns the charming cut-out panels from our Paper-Cut Harvest collection into festive fall pillows that will warm up any room.
Ready to get stitching? Here’s how to make your own:
Step 1: Cut Out the Fabric
Start by cutting out each pillow piece from the panel. Leave 2–3 inches of white space around each shape—this extra room acts as a border and gives you a seam allowance when sewing. You’ll use this main shape to cut out the backing fabric too.

Step 2: Pin Front to Back
Pick a coordinating backing fabric (we love the printed options from Paper-Cut Harvest for this!). Place the backing and main pillow piece right sides together, and use the front piece as a guide to cut the backing fabric. Once both pieces are the same shape, pin them together all around the edges.

Step 3: Sew Around the Edges
Using a ¼" seam allowance, sew around the edge of your pillow—just be sure to leave a 4"–5" gap at the bottom. This opening is where you’ll turn and stuff your pillow later.

Step 4: Turn It Inside Out
Carefully turn your pillow inside out through the opening. Gently push out the corners and curves so your shape looks nice and crisp.

Step 5: Stuff It Up
Now the fun part—stuffing! You can use polyfil, fabric scraps, or batting for the main fill. To add some cozy weight, try mixing in a handful of beads, dried beans, or even rice. Stuff it to your liking—firm, squishy, or somewhere in between!

Step 6: Stitch It Closed
Once your pillow is nicely filled, use a hidden ladder stitch (aka invisible hand stitch) to sew the opening closed. Add a little more stuffing before sealing the last inch if needed.
Optional: Add Flair!
Want to take it up a notch? Add some tassels, fringe, or pom-poms for extra personality and texture.
And that’s it! You’ve just created a charming fall pillow using our Paper-Cut Harvest collection. Perfect for adding a handmade touch to your autumn decor—or gifting to someone who loves a little seasonal cheer.
Happy sewing!
