{"product_id":"tammy-wenderlich","title":"Tammy Wenderlich","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"\u003eMy name is Tammy Wenderlich and I design under the name Desert Bird.   I am inspired by the vibrant culture and whimsical wildlife in my high desert home in New Mexico.  I am primarily an illustrator and started by putting my art on cards, prints, books and pillows.  My mom is an avid quilter and encouraged me to put the illustrations on fabric panels.  (Yes, reader, you should sometimes listen to your mother.)\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMy work starts in the art studio where I create colorful designs on paper using watercolor \u0026amp; acrylic paints and many layers of stamps, stencils and other mark-making to create very textured prints. These papers are imported into graphics design software and turned into repeating patterns.  I also use the graphics design software to create my illustrations which combine line drawings with the pretty patterns I made on paper and watercolor backgrounds. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMy largest body of work is my collection of state ABC panel sets.  Rather than designing in collections, my fabric work is typically focused on illustrated panel sets with coordinates (the same designs used inside the illustrations).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eTogether with my husband, a furniture builder, we own Desert Bird Mercantile with retail in the historic Albuquerque Old Town Patio Market and in Corrales, New Mexico.
